ABIS Library is our school's central hub of learning and inquiry. Our library supports our school's curriculum and offers a wide range of books to foster the love of reading. Our growing collection of resources encompasses almost 10.000 items including fiction and non-fiction books, DVDs, CDs and magazines.

We are a multilingual PYP and MYP Library, with books in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Polish.PYP classes come in on a weekly basis on class visits to check out and renew books. MYP students are welcome to check out books at any time.

Philosophy

Our philosophy is that all teachers are language teachers. Our goal is for students to achieve proficiency in English, the language of instruction, as well as in the second language German, the host country’s language.

English as a Second Language

At Anton Bruckner International School the purpose of the ESL program is to provide students with the support they need to feel comfortable and to learn in everyday situations in the classroom.

After 10th grade/MYP 5, students have the possibility to apply at Linz International School Auhof (LISA) to complete the IB Diploma Programme (DP).

Service As Action is meaningful service to a community that is student-initiated and student-led.

This is not just a bake sale to raise money, but it involves in-depth research, the planning of an activity that is meaningful to them, and ultimately carrying out that activity.

Approached to learning (ATL) skills are a unifying thread throughout all MYP subject groups. ATL skills provide the foundation for independent learning and encourage the application of their knowledge and skills in unfamiliar contexts. Developing and applying these social, thinking, research, communication and self management skills helps students learn how to learn.

What is the personal project?

It is a project to develop your personal interests. It is to show the skills you have developed in the MYP, through the subjects and Approaches to Learning (ATL), and to apply these skills to a topic. This project should be based on your interests and talents, resulting in a product or outcome.

MYP is based on the belief that all students can be taught to be independent problem-solvers with strong study skills. The Learner Profile allows students to assess their progress against clearly defined personal attributes.

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) in grades 6-10 is a five-year programme that connects the IB Primary Years Programme (preschool-grade 5) and the IB Diploma Programme (grades 11-12).The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, becoming critical and reflective thinkers.

What the MYP offers students

The MYP aims to develop active learners and internationally minded young people who can empathise with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning. The programme empowers students to inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally and globally. The result is young people who are creative, critical and reflective thinkers.

The PYP Exhibition: encouraging in-depth, collaborative inquiry

In the final year of the PYP, students, carry out an extended, in-depth, collaborative project known as the PYP exhibition.

This involves students working collaboratively on an in-depth inquiry into real life issues or problems. Students collectively synthesise all of the essential elements of the PYP in ways that can be shared with the whole school community.

The PYP is concept-driven and transdisciplinary

A transdisciplinary approach to learning is authentic and relevant to the real world. Teaching is not restricted to traditional subjects but is supported and enriched by them.

Throughout the year, students across grades 1-5 explore six units of inquiry, which fall under six transdisciplinary themes and incorporate all six of the PYP subject areas:

The PYP is an international, transdisciplinary programme designed for students between ages 3 - 12 years (preschool and primary grades). It is designed to foster the development of the whole child, touching hearts as well as minds and encloses social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic welfare. The PYP is based on research about best teaching practices from all over the world and provides a relevant and engaging educational program.
